Tino Kuban: Les Jardins Vivants and Maison Glandien – A Commitment to Natural Winemaking
Tino Kuban, a passionate and dynamic winemaker, took over Bernard van Berg’s estate in Meursault and renamed it Les Jardins Vivants. This small yet exceptional vineyard spans 1.5 hectares and is cultivated with an uncompromising approach to quality. The yields are exceptionally low—remaining below 10 hl/ha—with each vine carrying no more than four bunches. The harvest is meticulously conducted in the cool of the morning, across multiple passes (up to four), ensuring that only the ripest berries are selected.
In the cellar, Tino follows a philosophy of minimal intervention. Vinification is carried out in the most natural way possible, using a vertical press without pumps—everything is handled by gravity, with no racking. Whole bunches are used, and fermentation takes place in new Stockinger barrels, allowing the wine to develop its depth and complexity while preserving its pure expression of terroir.
Maison Glandien: A Négociant with a Vision
Alongside his work at Les Jardins Vivants, Tino has developed Maison Glandien, also based in Meursault. Here, he operates as a négociant, carefully sourcing grapes from trusted growers in Burgundy, Beaujolais, Alsace, and Jura. He selects fruit from vineyards that follow sustainable and responsible viticultural practices, ensuring that his wines reflect both the authenticity of their terroirs and his high standards of quality.
Fermentation in Maison Glandien is spontaneous, with no added sulfites whenever possible, and aging is done in used oak barrels. This approach results in wines that are expressive, pure, and deeply connected to the land they come from.
Signature Wine: Pinot Noir
One of Maison Glandien’s standout creations is an elegant Pinot Noir, crafted from the finest parcels of the varietal. The grapes are harvested at peak maturity, early in the morning, to maintain their freshness and vibrancy. Once in the winery, the fruit undergoes a low-intervention vinification process, without any artificial additives.
The resulting wine boasts an intense and brilliant ruby-red hue. The nose is refined, with expressive aromas of red fruits, such as cherry and raspberry. On the palate, the wine reveals a harmonious balance of fruit and spice, lifted by bright acidity that enhances its freshness and structure. The finish is long, elegant, and subtly woody, leaving a lasting impression of depth and finesse.

This wealth of experience has given him a deep understanding of different winemaking philosophies, which he has seamlessly integrated into his own approach. His wines are a testament to precision, patience, and respect for nature—showcasing the beauty of each grape and the character of its terroir.
