The Etruscan Coast beyond the sea: Monterufoli among hiking, relaxation and wine

Monterufoli lies in the Colline Metallifere hinterland between the Val di Cecina and Val di Cornia. The surrounding Monterufoli-Caselli Nature Reserve covers nearly 5,000 hectares of woodland, streams, rocky outcrops and trails.

The estate covers 1,030 hectares. Approximately 90% is coppice woodland and Mediterranean scrub, while the remainder contains pasture, arable fields, olive groves and 16 hectares of vineyards. The vines stand at roughly 150–350 metres on sandy-clay and limestone soils rich in coarse material and minerals.

The restored hospitality complex occupies the former mining station and depot, which operated until 1929. La Miniera contains rooms and the restaurant, while Le Scuderie and La Casa delle Guardie provide independent apartments. Facilities include a pool, sports field, meeting room, wine shop and tasting room.

Outdoor routes cross cork-oak woods, waterways, vineyards, stone bridges and remnants of the mining railway. Short vineyard walks, e-bike routes and an off-road tour connect the property’s wines with its soils, former quarries and panoramic viewpoints.
