The Vermentino project and the 2024 Mundus Vini result

The Vermentino project began in 1998 and developed through varietal research, investment and precision techniques adapted to individual vines. Automated weather stations now monitor temperature and humidity and trigger water-stress alerts for targeted emergency irrigation.

Chemical fertilisers had been excluded for about a decade by 2024. Organic formulations and biological products were preferred, while natural plant-protection products were used only when pathogen pressure required intervention. Soil-compaction layers were broken with specialised blades that left the grass cover intact, helping porosity and water retention.

Fruit was harvested manually in the early morning to preserve lower bunch temperatures. The name Pian di Seta was proposed by Marco Castignani by combining local toponyms and was intended to represent both mineral character and aromatic refinement. The project received the Best White Wine of Tuscany distinction at the 2024 Mundus Vini Spring Tasting.
