Four historic Contratto aperitif and bitter products return

In December 2012, Contratto released four historic products that had been absent since the 1960s: Vermouth Bianco, Vermouth Rosso, Americano Rosso and Fernet. The revival drew upon formulas more than a century old that had passed through generations of the Contratto family.

The vermouths and Americano use wine fortified with Italian brandy and botanical infusions; Fernet is a spirit. Depending on the formula, between 30 and 50 herbs, spices, roots and seeds contribute to the blend. The production programme retained cold maceration and emphasized whole, high-quality botanicals rather than industrially premixed flavours.
