Discovering Castello di Fonterutoli Author's Cellar

The cellar stands between Castellina in Chianti and Siena and descends through three levels beneath the estate. Agnese Mazzei designed it to unite landscape integration, modern production and reduced environmental impact. Grapes move downward from the reception square by gravity, while individual parcels undergo microvinification. Five water-bearing layers discovered during construction were retained behind exposed rock walls; their natural flow stabilises humidity and temperature without external energy for climate control. The building forms part of the 14-winery Toscana Wine Architecture network.
