Vineyard and terroir
The estate occupies an elevated site in the Vaca Mountain Range in the southeastern corner of Napa Valley. Its vineyard parcels reach approximately 600 metres above sea level and lie above the region’s fog line, with cooling air currents arriving from San Francisco Bay. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grow on the steep, south-west-facing slopes of Atlas Peak, where the soils are volcanic. Lower-lying vineyards are planted with Chardonnay. These site conditions promote gradual, even ripening.
Grapes
The grape composition of Antica Napa Valley is not specified. The estate grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay, but no individual variety or blend is attributed to this wine.
Label / history
The Antinori family acquired the Napa Valley property with other partners in 1985. In 1993, the family took direct control of the vineyards and winery operations. Antica Napa Valley was first produced with the 2006 vintage as an expression intended to unite Tuscan and Californian styles.
