Label / history
The name Scabrezza derives from an ancient hydraulic gauge used to measure the flow of the rivers and streams crossing the Monteloro estate; an example remains there today. The label bears a verse from the Divine Comedy dedicated by Dante Alighieri to Beatrice Portinari.
Monteloro was once a summer retreat where Dante and Beatrice stayed at their respective country estates. Its woodland scenery and narrow white roads are said to have inspired the Divine Comedy. The Tenuta Monteloro coat of arms reflects this story, with an “M” formed by the intertwined bodies and wings of mythical newts and dragons.
