Vineyard and terroir
The three grape varieties are grown in different parts of Sicily. The estate follows environmentally responsible winemaking principles and places particular emphasis on vineyard work.
Vinification
Each variety is vinified separately using traditional methods, with prolonged skin contact and malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
After malolactic fermentation, the separate wines mature in 225 L oak barrels for at least 18 months. Following blending and bottling, the wine rests in bottle for about another 10 months.
Tasting profile
A powerful wine in which the three varieties complement one another. It has a distinctive flavour that expresses Sicily’s fertile land.
Label / history
The Benanti family’s winemaking history began in the late nineteenth century, when Giuseppe Benanti, great-grandfather and namesake of the current owner, planted vineyards near Viagrande on the slopes of Mount Etna. The family continued making wine for many years. In 1988, Dr Giuseppe Benanti took ownership and began studying Sicilian soils and the characteristics of the island’s native grape varieties. The estate subsequently combined modern winemaking methods with traditional varieties and released wines intended to express their individual terroirs.
