Vineyard and terroir

This wine belongs to the estate’s single-varietal selection, a collection made from varieties that perform particularly well in selected vintages. Its fruit comes from the estate’s own vineyards.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

The grape clusters are selected by hand. Wild-yeast fermentation takes place for 14 days in small stainless-steel tanks, followed by a further 25 days of skin contact. Délestage and three punch-downs per day oxygenate the must and encourage a softer profile with ample fruit character. Malolactic fermentation takes place in wood.

Ageing

The wine matures for 16 months in medium-capacity Tuscan oak barrels. A long period in bottle completes its balance and develops further complexity.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. Violet and iris aromas mingle with juicy red fruit and restrained tertiary notes. The palate is enveloping and warm, retaining the characteristic acidity and substantial tannic structure of Sangiovese. Rich and mouthwatering, it concludes with a long, intense persistence.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C. Pair with pappardelle and wild-boar ragù or other meat sauces, stuffed pasta, steak, grilled red meats, game, cured meats and mature cheeses.

Vintage notes

In 2020, late-September and October rains challenged quality and made vineyard location and exposure decisive. Some parcels produced elegant, fresh fruit with lighter tannic density; others delivered characterful, spicy grapes with high potential alcohol and good minerality. Quantity was very low and overall quality was assessed as average.

The 2019 season was excellent in both volume and quality. Grapes were healthy, balanced and fully ripe across sites with differing elevations, exposures and microclimates. Strong grape structure permitted extended maceration and indicated good potential for long-term development, with particularly successful Sangiovese.
