Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the 20 ha Montesodi vineyard at Castello di Nipozzano. The vineyard lies at 400 m above sea level with a south-westerly exposure. Its dry, rocky and well-drained soils consist of clay and limestone and are rich in organic matter.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in early October. The must ferments in stainless-steel vats for approximately 10 days at about 35 °C, followed by 30 days of maceration and malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in French and Austrian oak barriques, followed by six months in bottle.
Label / history
First produced in 1974, Montesodi Riserva has since been made only in selected top vintage years. It was originally released as Montesodi Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG; more recent vintages bear the Montesodi Toscana IGT designation.
