Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from 25 ha of south-facing vineyards at Nipozzano Castle, in the Tuscan hills of Chianti Rufina near Florence. The vineyards lie at 250–300 m above sea level. The vines are 20 years old and grow in sandy, limestone soils rich in calcium and gravel.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested by hand from late September to early October. Each variety fermented separately in stainless-steel tanks for 15 days at temperatures no higher than 35 °C, followed by 20 days of skin maceration. Malolactic fermentation followed alcoholic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matured for 24 months in oak barriques and then rested for a further six months in bottle.
Vintage notes
Heavy spring rainfall in 2010 replenished moisture reserves beneath the vineyards, which proved beneficial during the dry, sunny summer. September brought warm days and cool nights, helping the grapes complete their development. The fruit achieved excellent ripeness, giving the wine particular finesse.
