Questo vino

Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from a 10-hectare vineyard at 100 metres above sea level in Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast. The vines average 20 years of age and grow in a gentle Mediterranean climate.

Grapes

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 15% Sangiovese. The blend brings together Cabernet and Merlot with Tuscany’s Sangiovese.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in open wooden vats, with manual punch-downs and a long maceration.

Ageing

The wine matures for 18 months in French oak barriques, followed by 12 months of refinement in bottle.

Technical data

Vintage 2016. Alcohol: 14.5%. Colour: dark ruby red.

Tasting profile

Blackcurrant, cedar and wild forest strawberries are joined by subtle rosemary and pepper. The palate is balanced and harmonious, with a silky texture and a complex structure.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–18°C. Pair with steak, Wagyu beef, fillet, game, mushroom or truffle dishes, and cheese.

Vintage notes

The 2016 vintage received 96/100 from Decanter and 95/100 from James Suckling, Wine Spectator, and Wine & Spirits.
