Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The wine is organic, and its fruit comes from a vineyard at 550 m in Tuscany.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. Although Merlot is usually picked several weeks before Sangiovese, at this high-altitude site it ripens later than Sangiovese. In the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation lasts around 15 days in cement tanks at a controlled 28 °C, followed by about 30 days of skin contact.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in 5 hL barrels, followed by another year in bottle before release.
Tasting profile
Elegant and refined, with distinctive complexity associated with the vineyard’s altitude.
Label / history
The name “550” refers to the vineyard’s altitude in metres. Production in 2019 was limited to 2,600 bottles.
