Label / history
Created by Alex Ouziel with master blender Mario Baralis, the 9 di DANTE project grew out of their friendship and discussions about interpreting Piedmont’s traditional vermouth craft for a new generation. Baralis had spent 30 years learning the craft and secrets of vermouth and had been retired in the hills of Piedmont for 20 years before developing the new formula with Ouziel.
The name and concept draw on Dante’s Divine Comedy, written in 1320, and its journey through hell and purgatory to paradise. The work was written in Italian rather than the customary Latin, making it accessible to a wider audience. The project presents vermouth as a contest between wormwood and the other botanicals, expressed through wine.
The Vermouth di Torino IGP appellation was established in 2019 to guarantee the origin and production process of the vermouth.
