Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the company’s vineyards in the province of Trapani, at elevations of up to 300 metres above sea level. Trapani is on Sicily’s western coast, bordering the Tyrrhenian Sea. The Mediterranean climate brings mild winters, limited rainfall and very hot, windy summers. The vines grow mainly in sandy soils and are farmed exclusively using organic methods to preserve the natural balance of the soil and surrounding environment.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the first half of September. They undergo 6–8 hours of maceration, followed by gentle pressing. The juice ferments in temperature-controlled steel tanks, after which wine spirit is added.
Ageing
The wine rests in stainless-steel tanks for six months.
Tasting profile
The aroma is generous, with pronounced fruit flavour.
Label / history
Muscat of Alexandria is thought to have originated in the Nile Delta near the Egyptian city of Alexandria, from which its name derives. In Sicily, the variety is called Zibibbo, from an Arabic word meaning “raisin.”
