Vineyard and terroir
Primamateria combines estate-grown Merlot planted in 1999 and Sangiovese planted in 1996. The vineyards are located in Radda in Chianti, have a planting density of 5,000 vines per hectare and are trained to Guyot. Poggerino’s vineyards lie at 400–500 metres above sea level with south to south-west exposure. The freely draining soils are rich in stones formed through the decomposition of galestro rock.
Grapes
Sangiovese and Merlot; the proportions are not specified.
Vinification
The Merlot is harvested manually from the last week of September, followed by the Sangiovese from the first week of October. The two varieties are vinified separately after selection in the vineyard.
