Vineyard and terroir
The original Chardonnay vineyard, planted with 3 acres in the late 1980s, lies on a hill at 350 m above sea level, on sedimentary soils rich in sand. Additional Chardonnay grows at 460 m on more typical sandy soils. Sauvignon Blanc is grown in Siena at 230 m on alluvial soils.
Grapes
Sauvignon Blanc has been included alongside Chardonnay since 2015.
Vinification
The grapes undergo cryomaceration at 5 °C for several hours without exposure to oxygen. The must ferments for 25–30 days at 12–16 °C.
Ageing
The Chardonnay ages on its lees in oak barrels for nine months, while the Sauvignon Blanc ages in stainless-steel tanks.
Tasting profile
Complex and richly structured, with a rich texture, strong personality and distinctly Tuscan character.
Label / history
Torricella takes its name from the vineyard where Chardonnay was planted in the late 1980s.
