Honorary doctorate from the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo

The Universidad Nacional de Cuyo’s Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in Mendoza scheduled the conferral for 19 March 2026. The accompanying lectio magistralis, “Il Terroir come unica strada per il vigneto di domani,” addressed climate change and the homogenisation of taste.

Cipresso’s thesis placed soil, geological biodiversity and local identity ahead of formulas imposed across regions. His Argentine work was framed as a transition from treating Malbec alone as the defining subject to reading the places in which it grows. The distinction recognised a career extending from Bassano del Grappa and Montalcino to the Andes and treating oenology as a means of understanding landscape, geology and history.
