Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie at 500–600 m above sea level on clay soils with eroded limestone and dolomite.
Vinification
The must comes from carefully selected grapes and is fermented in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of around 18 °C. The wine then rests for several months on its lees in stainless steel tanks and is filtered before bottling.
Label / history
The Colterenzio cooperative takes its name from the village of Colterenzio near Girlan, home to one of Europe's oldest vineyards, planted by the ancient Romans. It was founded in 1960, when 28 local farmers decided to join forces. Today it brings together more than 290 winegrowers who own around 300 hectares of vineyards.
Archduke Sigismund, who lived at Firmiano Castle in the 15th century, enjoyed the wines of the region, and there is evidence of winemaking here from Roman times. The producers see this long tradition as carrying responsibilities, including the need to make bold decisions. The labels show the silhouette of the 15th-century castle built by Archduke Sigismund, who actively supported the development of the area's vineyards. The castle is now almost completely in ruins.
