Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown at 400–450 m above sea level on gravelly, sandy soils.
Grapes
The wine is made from Golden Muscat. The berries turn golden as they ripen, which gives the wine its golden colour. Muscat is one of the world's oldest grape varieties and now exists in many forms. One type was found in the sandy soils of South Tyrol and named "Pfefferer", meaning "spicy". It is now known as Golden Muscat, after the golden colour of its ripe berries.
Vinification
After harvest the grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks at a steady temperature of around 18 °C.
Ageing
The wine spends a short time on its fine lees in neutral vessels.
Tasting profile
Off-dry, bright and refreshing, with a pleasant aroma of Muscat and citrus. The colour is golden.
Label / history
The Colterenzio cooperative takes its name from the village of Colterenzio near Girlan, home to one of Europe's oldest vineyards, planted by the ancient Romans. It was founded in 1960 by 28 local farmers. It now has more than 290 winemakers who own around 300 ha of vineyards. The labels show the silhouette of a 15th-century castle built by Archduke Sigismund, a wine lover who supported the development of vineyards in the area. The castle is now almost entirely in ruins.
