XXXVI Masi Seminar: Amarone between Past and Future
The 36th Masi Seminar took place at Vinitaly on 13 April 2026. Organized by the Masi Technical Group, it examined Vaio Armaron as an expression of the Serego Alighieri hillside cru and commemorated the partnership begun in 1973 between the Serego Alighieri house, the Boscaini family and Masi’s technicians.
Raffaele Boscaini opened the event, followed by oenologist Sissi Baratella. The estate’s defining elements were presented as the Vaio Armaron site, the Molinara Serego Alighieri clone and maturation in traditional 600-litre Veronese cherrywood casks. Professor Lucio Brancadoro discussed Molinara’s historical and genetic profile and the ungrafted estate vine planted in 1875, which survived phylloxera within the protected historic walls.
Andrea Dal Cin and Andrea Tella led a five-vintage vertical spanning the 1970s to the present. The 1979 vintage was identified as the first to embody Masi’s technical contribution; 1988 represented the stylistic change of the 1980s; 1997 was characterized by exceptional concentration; 2008 had entered Wine Spectator’s global Top Ten; and the climatically difficult 2017 vintage demonstrated structure and ageing potential.
