Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars was founded by Warren Winiarski in 1970 in California’s Napa Valley. The estate rose to international prominence through the 1976 Judgment of Paris, a blind tasting in which a panel of nine French tasters compared leading California Cabernet and Chardonnay wines with renowned Bordeaux and Burgundy labels. S.L.V. 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon took first place, challenging contemporary perceptions of California wine.
