Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in the province of Brindisi on the Masseria Altemura estate in the heart of Salento. The estate lies equally distant from the Ionian and Adriatic seas. Its climate and sea breezes create favourable growing conditions, and its vineyards provide a microclimate suited to Fiano. Masseria Altemura covers approximately 300 ha, of which 150 ha are vineyards.
Grapes
The blend varies slightly from year to year. Restored Fiano clones are used.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, gently pressed and fermented for 5–6 days at a controlled temperature of 17 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees in steel tanks for approximately three months, followed by further maturation in bottle.
Tasting profile
Fresh and fruity, with bright acidity. The aroma is balanced, with notes of almond, orange blossom, peach and herbs. The palate is elegant, mineral and slightly saline, with crisp freshness reflecting the influence of the Ionian and Adriatic seas.
Serving and pairing
Suitable as an aperitif and with shellfish, pasta in delicate sauces, fish or grilled white meat.
Label / history
Fiano was grown in Salento during the time of Charles I of Anjou in the 13th century and Frederick II in the 16th century, before later falling somewhat into obscurity. The Zonin family helped revive the variety and restore its clones at Altemura. The family has owned the estate since 2000.
