Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in the province of Brindisi, in the vineyards of Masseria Altemura in the heart of Salento. The estate lies at an equal distance from the Ionian and Adriatic seas. Its approximately 300 hectares include 150 hectares under vine. Cooling sea breezes moderate the local climate, while the influence of both seas contributes to the wine’s freshness and saline character.
Grapes
Fiano was cultivated in Salento during the reign of Charles I of Anjou in the 13th century and in the time of Frederick II in the 16th century, before falling into relative obscurity. The Zonin family helped revive the variety, restoring its clones and identifying a suitable microclimate at Masseria Altemura.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness, gently pressed and fermented for five to six days at a controlled temperature of 17 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees in steel tanks for approximately three months, followed by further maturation in bottle for an unspecified period.
Tasting profile
Refreshing and lively, the wine has a fruity character. The nose is balanced, with almond, orange blossom, peach and herb notes. The palate is mineral, slightly saline and elegant, with crisp freshness.
