Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in the province of Brindisi. Masseria Altemura lies in the heart of Salento, roughly equidistant from the Ionian and Adriatic seas. The estate covers approximately 300 ha, including 150 ha of vineyards, and its climate is moderated by cooling sea breezes.
Grapes
Primitivo is the principal grape in the blend.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and gently pressed. The must ferments in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for one week, followed by approximately seven days of skin maceration to extract colour, aromas and polyphenols.
Ageing
The wine rests for approximately three months in stainless-steel tanks, followed by a short period in bottle.
