Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in Agro di Torre Santa Susanna, on the Masseria Altemura estate in the heart of Salento. The estate lies at equal distance from the Ionian and Adriatic seas, whose breezes influence its microclimate. It covers about 300 ha, including 150 ha of vineyards.
Grapes
The Zonin family worked to restore Fiano clones for cultivation on the estate.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at advanced ripeness and gently pressed. Traditional fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 18–20 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures for six months in stainless-steel tanks, followed by three months in bottle.
Tasting profile
The balanced nose has notes of almond, orange blossom, peach and herbs. The palate is elegant and mineral, with slight salinity and crisp freshness attributed to the influence of the Ionian and Adriatic seas.
Label / history
Fiano was grown in Salento during the reign of Charles I of Anjou in the 13th century and that of Frederick II in the 16th century, before the variety was largely forgotten. The Zonin family, which has owned Masseria Altemura since 2000, helped revive it. The wine won a gold medal at Mundus Vini in 2014 and a silver medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in 2011.
