Rías Baixas showcases more than 60 wines in San Juan
The denomination brought 26 wineries to Puerto Rico for its final international promotion of 2026, targeting a market that retained third place among its overseas destinations after buying 620,642 litres worth more than €5 million in the 2025–2026 campaign.
The Regulatory Council of the Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin held a promotional event in San Juan on Thursday, 5 November 2026, making Puerto Rico the appellation’s last international stop of the year. Nearly 100 wine professionals and opinion leaders attended, including journalists, sommeliers, importers, influencers and other figures connected with wine and gastronomy.1
At the centre of the event was a showroom featuring 26 Rías Baixas wineries and more than 60 wine brands. The presentation was intended to reinforce recognition of the northwestern Spanish denomination in a market where its wines are already established.1
Puerto Rico remains the third-largest foreign market
Puerto Rico has occupied third place in Rías Baixas’ international sales ranking for several years and retained that position in the 2025–2026 campaign. Sales during the period reached 620,642 litres and exceeded €5 million in value, while more than 50 wineries from the denomination already had a presence on the island.1
Rías Baixas Secretary General Ramón Huidobro and Marketing Director Eva Mínguez travelled to Puerto Rico on 29 October with representatives of some of the participating wineries. The council said the initiative sought to strengthen awareness in one of the denomination’s leading export destinations by sales.1
Seminar highlights Albariño and native varieties
A seminar on Rías Baixas preceded the showroom. Huidobro opened the session, while Alejandro Ferris of the Academia de Sommelier de Puerto Rico conducted the presentation and tasting. Huidobro addressed the denomination’s native grape varieties—particularly Albariño—along with its winemaking tradition, climate and landscape.1
Most wines served at the event were from the 2025 vintage, supplemented by bottles spanning the 2024 to 2020 vintages and some wines from 2018 and 2016. The latter year marked Rías Baixas’ first visit to Puerto Rico for wine promotion and training about the region and its production.1
Final international engagement of 2026
The San Juan programme concluded Rías Baixas’ international promotional activity for 2026. By combining professional education with a commercial presentation, the denomination continued its work in an established export market for its white wines, built principally around Albariño and other native varieties.1
