Ciao Carlin: remembering the man who taught the Langhe the value of friendship and slowness

The tribute remembers Carlo Petrini as a deeply local figure before his international recognition as the founder of Slow Food. It recalls his friendships with Azio Citi and Giovanni Ravinale, their involvement in Radio Bra Onde Rosse during the 1970s and 1980s, and their conviction that local folk culture deserved protection.

The story follows Petrini’s ability to connect popular and intellectual culture, including the group’s role in bringing the folk duo Le Nete to Club Tenco in 1980. It presents his broader legacy as a method founded on human relationships, shared tables, humour, community-building and respect for growers and artisans. The closing remembrance links those values with friendship, wine and the convivial culture of the Langhe.
