Ammura: the soul of Etna in Tommasi Family Estates’ new project

Ammura was unveiled as the Tommasi family's new estate on Mount Etna following its arrival in Sicily in 2022. The 15-hectare property lies at 570 metres in Contrada Alboretto–Chiuse del Signore, Linguaglossa, within the Etna Natural Park. Some of the land is owned and some leased from Tenuta Chiuse del Signore of the Bambara–De Luca family, heirs of the Castrogiovanni lineage.

The name Ammura was explained as a word of Arabic origin meaning beautiful, beloved or enchanting. Its identity uses Arabic culture as a symbolic bridge between Sicily and Veneto and interprets Etna through the feminine archetype of the Enchantress. The mountain is presented as A’ Muntagna, a generous yet unpredictable maternal presence. Prickly pear, dandelion, dark colours and tactile visual elements evoke lava, dark soil and a landscape shaped by fire and wind.

The first production consisted of 12,500 bottles of Carricante-based Etna Bianco DOC and 10,300 bottles of Nerello Mascalese-based Etna Rosso DOC. The vineyards occupy rich volcanic soils between views of Etna and the sea, while a 1,500 m² cellar is devoted to vinification and ageing. Giancarlo Tommasi described the project as an attempt to embrace the mountain's energy, respect its identity and combine it with the family's artisanal experience. Production was deliberately limited in support of quality and a distinctive identity.
