La Nascetta, l’antico vitigno a bacca bianca delle Langhe

Nascetta’s documented history begins in the nineteenth century, with municipal records of cultivation around Alba and Mondovì. It was valued at the time and used chiefly as a blending grape. In 1877, Giuseppe dei Conti di Rovasendalo called it Anascetta in his ampelographic work and praised both grape and wine. Lorenzo Fantini compared its finesse with Moscato in 1895, while Giovanni Gagna subsequently used the modern name and recommended it alongside Moscato Bianco and Favorita.

Modern producers led the variety’s recovery and the work toward a precise legal identity. Nascetta was admitted to the Langhe DOC in 2002.

Anna Maria Abbona planted its first Nascetta vineyard in 2006. The variety has been vinified alone since 2009, and a Nascetta Brut made by the Martinotti method was added in 2016.
