I Balzini White Label: a 1987 table wine that became a cult
Vincenzo D’Isanto created I Balzini to produce an elegant, characterful wine outside established denominational rules. Following experiments conducted with Giulio Gambelli, the 1987 White Label combined Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Canaiolo and matured in small Slavonian-oak barrels. It reached the market in 1991, four years after harvest, and became the starting point for the estate’s subsequent diversification. Thirty years after the vintage, Antonella D’Isanto prepared 5,230 carefully conserved bottles for presentation at Terre di Toscana on 6 March.
