Lake Iseo: medieval villages, nature and Franciacorta

Lake Iseo lies between Brescia and Bergamo and covers approximately 65 km². Its glacially formed basin moderates the local climate, providing sunny, ventilated summers and relatively mild winters. The guide follows Monte Isola, Lovere, Iseo, the Torbiere del Sebino, the Piramidi di Zone, Sarnico and Pisogne before turning south to Franciacorta. There, glacial deposits form a semicircle of well-drained, stony morainic hills. Palazzo Lana and the Berlucchi cellar at Borgonato stand near the centre of this landscape, a few kilometres from the lake and the place where the first Franciacorta was made in 1961.
