Chianti: first harvest for the new Bottega winery

Bottega opened a new winery in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the heart of Chianti Classico, and brought it into full-scale operation for the 2023 harvest. The opening extended the company’s production directly into the denomination and was intended to consolidate and improve the quality of its Chianti.

The facility was established for Chianti Classico DOCG, Chianti Classico Riserva and fine Super Tuscans. It is surrounded by 13 hectares of Sangiovese and Canaiolo, where vineyard activity and harvest are carried out by hand. The barrel cellar holds approximately 800 hectolitres and uses 25-hectolitre Slavonian-oak casks chosen to maintain Sangiovese’s Tuscan character. Guglielmo Pasqualin supervises the vineyard and cellar.

The opening continued a project begun in 1993 by Sandro Bottega, Stefania Sandrelli and Giovanni Soldati. In autumn 1994 they selected grapes at a small Sienese estate and created Acino d’Oro. Its sales subsequently reached 130,000 bottles, with distribution in major airports and restaurants worldwide, before Bottega moved to direct winery management in 2023.
