Decanter discovers Montecucco

Richard Baudains’ feature presented Montecucco as a sparsely populated Tuscan landscape of woods, olive groves, pastures, arable land and vineyards between Monte Amiata and the coast. It traced the denomination’s expansion after its formal creation in 1998 and described the influence of altitude, alternating mountain and maritime air currents and varied soils on Sangiovese.

Daniele Rosellini appeared as a newcomer to the denomination with an established career in agronomy, winemaking, consultancy and estate management, including work as oenologist for the Chianti Classico consorzio. He selected Montecucco for the conjunction of soils and climate suited to Sangiovese and connected the name Campi Nuovi with the planting of new vineyards on virgin ground. The broader feature also highlighted organic and biodynamic cultivation and minimally interventionist vinification as shared commitments among leading Montecucco producers.
