Castellare di Castellina celebrates the 100th anniversary of Luigi Veronelli
On the centenary of Luigi Veronelli’s birth, Paolo Panerai organized a tribute at Da Vittorio in Brusaporto. The event celebrated the friendship that began at Panorama in 1970 and later produced collaborations including L’Etichetta and Dialoghetti morali.
A limited edition of 3,000 bottles of I Sodi di San Niccolò 2021 was released as I Sodi di Veronelli. Its red, lift-up label recalled Veronelli’s cloak and revealed the story of the name he proposed in late August 1976. A neck booklet carried Panerai’s account of their relationship.
The article reconstructed the 1976 walk between vigna de’ sodi and the Church of San Niccolò, when Veronelli advised Panerai and winemaker Maurizio Castelli to use Sangioveto and Malvasia Nera rather than French grapes and insisted on the initial article “I.” That decision led to the first 1977 vintage.
