I Sodi di S. Niccolò celebrates 45 harvests

The 2022 I Sodi di S. Niccolò celebrated 45 harvested and bottled vintages. The anniversary presentation used a black label and featured the European stonechat (Saxicola torquatus), continuing the annual tribute to threatened birds found around the vineyards.

The season was hot and dry. Spring water reserves helped the vines through an arid summer, while late-August rain assisted ripening and allowed an early but regular harvest of healthy, concentrated fruit. The resulting wines showed intense colour, ripe red-fruit and floral aromas, subtle spice, integrated tannins and balancing freshness.

Created in 1977, I Sodi di S. Niccolò was identified as Italy’s fourth Super Tuscan and a member of the Historical Supertuscans Association. By this anniversary it had appeared three times in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 and had entered Vinous’s inaugural global Top 100 with the 2020 vintage.
