I Sodi di S. Niccolò once again in the world Top 100

The 2020 I Sodi di S. Niccolò returned Castellare to Wine Spectator’s global Top 100 and debuted in the first Vinous World Top 100. The achievement came 35 harvests after the 1985 vintage placed sixth in Wine Spectator’s inaugural 1988 ranking.

The article retraced the wine’s 1977 origin, its status as the fourth Super Tuscan and its native composition from the estate’s two leading crus. It also repeated Luigi Veronelli’s role in naming the wine after vigna de’ sodi and the 14th-century Church of San Niccolò.

The 2020 season began with a mild winter and early budbreak, followed by a cool spring. Summer was warm without extreme peaks, and intermittent rain—especially in September—moderated temperatures. Harvest finished in the first week of October.
