Certified Sustainability: Tenute del Cerro Measures Its Impact

Equalitas evaluates environmental, economic and social sustainability across the wine supply chain. Its assessment covers vineyard, winery and logistics operations as well as propagation material, suppliers, packaging, distribution, employee travel and delivery distances. Fattoria del Cerro and La Poderina were the first named estates within the group to hold the certification.

The certification process involved administration, vineyard, winery and logistics teams in collecting detailed operating data. Carbon- and water-footprint calculations were added to measure greenhouse-gas emissions and pressure on water resources. These measurements are used to establish annual targets aligned with the Agenda 2030 framework.

Examples of possible annual actions include reducing water used for cellar cleaning, installing photovoltaic systems, lowering electricity consumption and adopting lighter bottles to reduce emissions from glass production and transport. The integrated management system also includes ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IFS Food and SA8000 standards covering quality, environmental management, food safety and social responsibility.

The program emphasizes third-party verification and consumer transparency, including the future use of the Equalitas mark and QR-linked certification information on labels.
