About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown on alluvial soils with areas of limestone. The estate's vineyards lie between Leverano and Salice Salentino in southern Puglia, and Donna Marzia is one of the family's four estates there, alongside Cantalupi, Saraceno and Santo Stefano.
Vinification
After gentle pressing, the must is fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matures in cement vessels.
Label / history
Donna Marzia Vermentino belongs to the I Monovitigni single-variety range, which is certified under Italy's SQNPI integrated production system. Conti Zecca traces its history over five centuries. The Zecca family, originally from Naples, moved to Italy in 1500 and began farming its estates. In 1935 Count Alcibiade Zecca began making wine from the family's own vineyards and built a winery in Leverano. After the Second World War his son, Count Giuseppe, introduced new grape-growing and winemaking technologies and began bottling the wines. Today Alcibiade's heirs Francesco, Luciano and Mario run the estate and are involved at every stage, from choosing sites for new vineyards to harvest timing, winemaking and bottling. Conti Zecca farms 320 ha of vineyards.
