About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The selected fruit is grown in Salento. Conti Zecca farms 320 ha between Leverano and Salice Salentino, across the Cantalupi, Saraceno, Donna Marzia and Santo Stefano estates; the source does not identify a specific estate for this wine.
Grapes
The wine is made from a selection of Primitivo grapes.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed and pressed, then macerated for 12 days at a controlled temperature of 28–30 °C. The estate retains the traditional practice of a long fermentation.
Ageing
The wine rests in new oak barrels for one year.
Label / history
The Zecca family moved from Naples to this part of Italy in 1500 and began farming its estates. In 1935, Count Alcibiade Zecca began making wine from the family’s own vineyards and built a winery in Leverano. After the Second World War, his son, Count Giuseppe, introduced new viticultural and winemaking techniques and began bottling the family’s wines. The estate is now run by Alcibiade’s heirs Francesco, Luciano and Mario, who participate in decisions from vineyard selection and farming through harvest, vinification and bottling.
