Autumn News
The 2020 agricultural season was considered excellent. White grapes were harvested earlier than the historical norm, beginning in the final week of August. Merlot arrived in September and Sangiovese followed; Sangiovese then accounted for approximately 80% of the estate’s wine production. Arianna Gelpke was pleased with grape quality, and fermentation was active after completion of the harvest.
The estate’s approximately 4,000 olive trees showed no significant pest damage, creating expectations of renewed oil production after the total loss of the 2019 crop. No pesticides were used under the farm’s organic principles. Agriturismo guests returned during June, July and August, while the sheep produced abundant milk before their seasonal rest and lambing period.
