La Segreta wines re-dressed with new packaging

The redesigned La Segreta range debuted at Palermo’s Botanical Garden. The packaging places environmental performance and biodiversity at the centre: the bottle was developed with the SOStain Foundation from recycled Sicilian glass, while the paper carries Forest Stewardship Council certification.

The labels draw on the illustrated herbarium created by Sicilian naturalist Giuseppe Riggio between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Rovai Weber translated its herbs, flowers and roots into a contemporary visual system intended to reflect the relationship between Sicilian agriculture and nature.

Rosario Schicchi led a private visit to the Botanical Garden before presentations by Attilio Carapezza, Susanna Weber and Alessio Planeta. Alessio also commemorated Diego Planeta on the anniversary of his birth.

The event revisited the origins of La Segreta: a secluded elm-and-laurel woodland near the ruins of Mazzallakkar on Lake Arancio, where a hidden spring once refreshed travellers and where the Planeta family camped. Diego Planeta’s decision to plant a vineyard nearby helped initiate the modern wine project. The first labels used an 18th-century map of the area; the 2024 design replaced it with a botanical alphabet. The entire range was organic-certified by 2022 and also carries the SOStain commitment.
