Domìni Veneti: Valpolicella’s Desire for Freshness Takes on a Purple Hue

The Valpolicella Classico DOC 2024 was created for consumers seeking a lighter, less demanding red and was directed especially toward younger drinkers. A pale pearlescent-purple label and the informal “Valpo” presentation distinguish it visually.

The project responds to a movement away from dense colour, softness, high alcohol and the weight traditionally associated with dried-grape wines. Daniele Accordini described the contemporary objective as verticality: freshness generated by acidity together with low residual sugar. The finished wine has 3 g/L residual sugar and 11.5% alcohol.

The design began in the vineyard. Grapes were selected from 20–25-year-old vines between 200 and 250 metres above sea level, trained to double pergola, grassed and irrigated by drip. Compared with the established Domìni Veneti Valpolicella Classico, the result is lighter in colour, alcohol and structure. A screw cap supports its informal positioning and permits easy service, including chilled summer drinking and outdoor occasions.
