The 2024 Harvest at Donnafugata

At the Etna estate between Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia, temperatures were somewhat above the regional average. Winter was mild, while spring advanced regularly with rainfall close to seasonal norms. Adequate rain in May and June promoted even budbreak.

The vineyards managed the warmer conditions of June and mid-July with the help of water held in the deep, sandy volcanic soils. Further rainfall between August and September supported the final stages of ripening.

Harvest started approximately one week earlier than usual. Nerello Mascalese for rosé was picked during the first ten days of September. Carricante followed from 16 September. Picking of Nerello Mascalese for red wines began in the final ten days of September and ended on 5 October.
