With Fragore on Etna: the Donnafugata icon wine

Fragore was introduced as the Etna counterpart to Donnafugata’s established site-focused wines from western Sicily. The inaugural release came from Nerello Mascalese harvested in 2016 in Contrada Montelaguardia, where Donnafugata had selected its best parcels for a cru.

The estate’s Montelaguardia vineyards covered slightly more than four hectares at approximately 750 metres, east of Randazzo. Some vines were at least 70 years old. The soils were derived from sixteenth- and seventeenth-century lava, while Etna, the Nebrodi barrier, low rainfall, strong day–night temperature differences and frequent northern winds shaped the site’s conditions.

The fruit was vinified in Randazzo. Slightly more than 15,000 bottles of the first vintage were produced for release through restaurants and specialist wine shops.
