Edoardo Miroglio’s Bulgarian Wines Impress Italian Journalists

Italian journalists visited Bulgaria from 6 to 9 June 2016, spending a full day among Edoardo Miroglio Winery's vineyards, steel vinification tanks and ageing casks. At the time, the property covered 1,500 hectares, including 150 hectares of vines planted to 16 varieties.

The morning programme followed the final production phase of EM traditional-method sparkling wine. Workers inspected the bottles, froze their necks at −25 °C, removed the crown caps and frozen deposits, added liqueur d’expédition and completed closure with mushroom corks and wire cages.

After meeting owner Edoardo Miroglio, the visitors tasted Mavrud from the 2009 through 2013 vintages. The tasting highlighted the late-ripening grape's thick skins, freshness, colour, soft tannins and acidity. The programme also included an academic discussion of Bulgarian viticulture and oenology with Professor Ivanov at the University of Plovdiv.
