Pinot Nero Ludwig once again crowned Best Italian Pinot Noir
Pinot Nero Ludwig 2022 placed first at the 27th Giornate del Pinot Nero, following the 2021 vintage’s victory in 2024. Earlier winning vintages were 2017 and 2010. First produced in 2002, Ludwig combines grapes from a higher, south-west-facing vineyard at Glen and a warmer south-east-facing site at Barleith near Caldaro. The former contributes freshness and elegance, while the latter contributes structure and depth. Annual production is limited to 12,000 bottles. The 2022 growing season was warm and stable, producing fully ripe grapes with slightly lower but balanced acidity. Vinification involved ten days of maceration in stainless steel and ten months in French oak barriques.
