The Queen of Gewürztraminer

Gambero Rosso applied the nickname “Queen of Gewürztraminer” to Elena Walch. Gewürztraminer Kastelaz received its first Tre Bicchieri in 1997. Elena concentrated on identifying soils and microclimates capable of expressing the variety and promoted its Tramin origins. The estate’s Tramin vineyards occupy steep calcareous slopes, generally at 350–500 m, where warm autumn days alternate with cold nights and descending mountain winds. Its four principal Gewürztraminer interpretations are Selezione, Concerto Grosso, Vigna Kastelaz and the Cashmere passito.
