Moro di Testa, the new Grand Cru
Moro di Testa originated on Piano Spineto, the highest part of the estate, where vineyards reach approximately 300 m at the edge of the Sughereta di Niscemi reserve. Sandy soils and the maritime setting were selected for Syrah, which forms 90% of the blend with 10% Nero d’Avola.
The inaugural 2019 season had a mild winter and enough rain to replenish soil reserves, followed by a cooler-than-average spring that reduced flowering and potential yield. Dry, moderate August conditions allowed full, slightly delayed ripening. The result was a small crop associated with freshness and elegance. Giacomo Alessi’s sculpture of a Moor supplied the label image.
