Sangiovese grape: Zac, Fico and Per Filo three crus of Villa Le Corti
Gugliaie was planted in 1997 and converted from spur-pruned cordon to Guyot in 2021, a training change intended to respect the natural flow of sap. The certified-organic vineyard has been managed biodynamically since 2015.
Fico is presented as Filippo Corsini’s pure Sangiovese: naturally fermented, matured in used barriques and bottled in lightweight glass. Its harvest takes place in the first half of September and brings together relatives and friends from around the world. Fruit is selected in the vineyard, as bunches before destemming and again as berries on the sorting table. Spontaneous fermentation begins in opened barriques through yeasts on the fruit and in the old cellar, with manual mixing during fermentation. After racking, the wine returns to its fermentation barrique until the following autumn. Only a few hundred numbered bottles are made.
Per Filo began with the 2017 harvest as the second wine Filippo had conceived. Clotilde and Duccio Corsini continued his work with Sangiovese from a less stony part of Gugliaie. Fermentation takes place in tonneaux, with the subsequent process following Fico’s principles. Annual production is approximately 2,000 bottles.
